  • Walk to the beach near the Gazebo south of Children's Fairyland
  • Please wear white and bring names or images to incorporate in the memorial
  • We still need volunteers.

Schedule of Events

7:00 PM Make peace lanterns. Supplies and instruction will be provided Bring names or images to incorporate into your artwork. Peace lanterns like these are traditionally floated in Japan in remembrance of the victims of the U.S. atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

7:20 PM Sunset circle begins, led by Western Shoshone spiritual leader Corbin Harney. Lantern-making continues. When you've completed your lantern, we invite you to join the circle.

7:45 PM Begin to wrap-up lantern making and join the circle.

7:50 PM Words of wisdom from Corbin Harney.

8:00: PM Candlelight walk begins. We will walk along Grand Avenue, turning on Bellevue, and proceed to the beach.

8:25 PM Lantern ceremony begins as walkers arrive at the beach.

8:55 PM Remarks by Matthew Lasar of September 11 Families for Peaceful Tomorrows.

9:11 PM 5 minutes of silence in memory of all the victims of September 11 and all victims of militarism, terror, and war, before and
since.

9:16 PM Closing.

Cleanup: Volunteers are invited to help with cleanup.
